We took our honeymoon in Colorado just outside of Breckenridge. It was mid-May so there were just a few days and weeks left of skiing. We decided instead to hike. The hill that was behind our cabin felt like a mountain. Along our venture we illegally picked Columbine flowers for ourselves- just one each. I stuck mine in my Bible for drying and pressing, thinking one day I would frame it or do something creative with it. Instead, it has remained in the same pages of Psalms since that day we took our hike in 2005.
Each Sunday when my mind wanders I will turn to that page and seeing it makes me smile- thinking of how exciting that time was. But I realized this morning that I have not read the scripture around that flower since the flower's arrival. So, I turned to it.
Psalm 136 goes on and on about the steadfast love of God and how His love endures forever. The author recounts from the creation of the earth to persecution in Egypt to the wandering in the desert to the giving of land as a heritage from other kings. It is beautiful how this history of the Israelites is recounted and with each bit of history, the author pausing and giving glory to God with a simple and powerful "for his steadfast love endures forever".
I am two years into my marriage, 8 years into my life with Christ, 24 years into my life and I have never stopped to write down or even think of the goodness and provision of God in this way. Yes the Psalms are designed to be poetic, but so can I in my praise of Him. I just love the simplicity of this psalm.
"It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever; and rescued us from our foes, for his steadfast love endures forever; he who gives food to all flesh, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heave, for his steadfast love endures forever." Psalm 136 24-26

I am so glad you stopped by blog and said hello! So good to see you online. I have found that blogging is an awesome way to keep up with long lost pals. So you've made the move to St. Louis? Seminary? School? Jobs? Matt and I spent three years there in Seminary before we made the crazy trek out west 1.5 years ago for Matt's job at a church. We actually go to church and live in the same town as Brooke! I know, crazy! Anyhow, so good to read up on you, and by the way, I love the little bit on your profile page.
